Proclamation of the Sovereign His Majesty King Charles III
No doubt many of us have offered public and personal prayer for those who mourn the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
and for the Proclamation of the Sovereign His Majesty King Charles III.
On Monday 12th September Bishop Lester, along with representatives from many other civil and religious bodies, represented the District at Government House in Melbourne for the ceremony of the Proclamation of the Sovereign. Victorian Governor Linda Dessau AC proclaimed His Majesty King Charles III as the new Sovereign of Australia. The proclamation was jointly signed by the governor of Victoria, the premier, the chief justice, the president of the Legislative council and the speaker of the Legislative assembly.
Guests were invited to sign a Condolence Book in a mark of respect at the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Prayer:
Let us pray for all who mourn the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and for her son, Charles who succeeds her as King:
Merciful Creator, send your Spirit now to comfort, in these days of loss, all who mourn the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Help them to commend her to your merciful care and support them in their time of grief, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Bless the Commonwealth as it proclaims the new Sovereign, His Majesty King Charles III. Give him wisdom and strength to carry out the solemn promises he has made, that he may faithfully serve you and his people all the days of his rule. Direct him and his advisers and guide the Parliaments of our Commonwealth and State. Help them to govern wisely and justly, so that people may be restrained from wrongdoing and encouraged to live good lives, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
